Introduction

These postgraduate programmes provide students with an opportunity to explore the application of theoretical concepts and the scientific rationale behind high performance coaching practice. They aim to develop innovative and progressive coaches by accessing the latest research within the field, providing practitioners with a postgraduate educational experience allowing them to continually facilitate positive outcomes alongside their athletes.

The programmes seek to recruit experienced coaches to 'up-skill' their knowledge as part of continuing professional development, although undergraduate students with coaching experience and career aspirations will find the programme equally valuable.

Hartpury is in an ideal position to deliver a course of this stature, as students can access excellent facilities and innovative teaching staff with a broad range of both professional and academic experiences.

Programme length

The Postgraduate Certificate is a part time programme, run between September and June of one academic year.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Coaching Science can be studied on a full time or part time basis. It can be a one year full time programme or it can be a progression route from the Postgraduate Certificate, in which case it is a one year part time programme. Both options run between September and June of one academic year.

The Master's programme can be studied as a full-time taught programme and completed in a twelve month period (September to August). If this programme is a progression from the Postgraduate Diploma in Coaching Science then it will be studied on a part time basis.

Teaching and learning

Traditional lectures will only be one part of your course. You'll also learn through syndicate work, individual presentations, student-led seminar groups, analysis of case studies and experiential learning via coaching simulations. Guest speakers from industry and professional bodies also contribute to the programme, highlighting innovative methods to create an environment that is enjoyable, varied and hugely effective.
