Teaching and learning

This vocationally orientated programme offers integration of practical theory, science-based principles and work-based learning.

The successful student will gain a Higher Education qualification that will either support their progression to further study or into graduate level employment. Students will study key topics including equine anatomy and physiology, nutrition, health and disease, and performance. While the programme is predominantly core at level one to support students in gaining fundamental skills and experience, there is a wealth of choice at level two. This enables students to tailor their experience of this programme to their individual interests and career aspirations. Options include equine behaviour, stud, training, therapy and rehabilitation.

Learning is delivered through classroom based lectures, field visits, laboratory-based practicals, seminars, practical sessions and work-based learning. A wide variety of assessment methods are used, including open book and prepared examinations, project reports, poster and seminar presentations, and oral/practical examinations.

Upon completion of this Foundation degree there is an opportunity to apply for the BSc (Hons) Equine Management (top-up) and therefore complete an honours degree within one further year of study. Postgraduate study opportunities are also available at Hartpury.
