Introduction

Richard Huish College, in partnership with the University of the West of England, Bristol, offers you the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills by gaining a university level qualification.

A Foundation Degree is a flexible, modern higher education qualification designed to meet the needs of employers. It enables you to develop your understanding of business and management theories whilst being able to apply this learning in the workplace, as you are encouraged to study and continue with employment. 

Following completion of your Foundation Degree, you can continue your studies to achieve a Bachelor’s degree.

Teaching and learning

You will learn through a mixture of lectures, seminars and workshops supported by real life examples through case studies and other media, and occasional guest practitioner speakers.

Study time

The course is delivered on both a part-time and full-time basis to meet the needs of a wide range of learners and provide flexible provision for employers.

The full-time route involves attending the college for two days a week.

The part-time route is more flexible with delivery over an afternoon and evening, or equivalent.

This should give you the opportunity to work and also gain valuable experience in the workplace alongside your degree.

Assessment

There is a variety of assessment methods. These will include timed assignments such as examinations, presentations and in-class tests. There are also coursework assignments which can be in the form of business and management reports, projects, personal development portfolios and self-assessment of your experiences in the workplace.

Placements

This course has been designed specifically to meet the needs of local and national employers to enable you to develop the business skills and competences currently in demand.

The accessibility and flexibility of the FdA allows you to 'earn whilst you learn' and to relate your studies to the business environment.

Throughout the course, support is provided by a course manager, academic and support staff. You will have a personal tutor, who is a member of the teaching team, who will provide support and guidance during your time at Richard Huish College.
