Introduction

The Integrated Advanced Practice, Level 3 (UZTSVW-20-3) or Masters Level (UZTSW4-20-M), module will:

  • Outline the four pillars of advanced practice and debate their significance to practice.
  • Discriminate between the legal and ethical framework of different health care roles within the NHS and the wider health community.
  • Appraise the roles of non-medical prescriber supplementary prescribing and the use of Patient group directives.
  • Analyse clinical risk management strategies, and assess their impact on patient safety and how this affects the role of the advanced practitioner.
  • Critique advanced communication skills and interpret how these may impact on the advanced practice role.
  • Breakdown safeguarding and working with vulnerable people policies to predict potential conflicts within the health care communities and patient groups.
  • Evaluate complex and integrated care pathways and examine how they can enhance or hinder partnership working.

Structure

Content

The Multi-Professional Foundation Programme (MPFP) consists of three 20 credit modules, offered at undergraduate and masters levels.

Integrated Advanced Practice (UZTSVW-20-3/UZTSW4-20-M)
Developing Advanced Practice (UZTRIR-20-3/UZTRIS-20-M)
Leadership and Innovation (UZTSVU-20-3/UZTSW-20-M)

Together, these modules form the Foundation Programme and are designed to appeal to a range of practitioners.

The module team includes nurses and Allied Health Professionals, and is also supported by people currently working in practice to ensure that learning and development is relevant and current.

These can be taken as a whole or as individual modules seperate from the Foundation Programme.

Learning and Teaching

A variety of approaches will be used which may include:

  • Lectures
  • Seminars
  • Action Learning
  • ICT based platforms
  • Case based approaches

Study time

A total of 48 hours in the form of seminars, lectures and online activities.

Assessment

The assignment consists of interactive assignment through an on-line wiki/discussion forum with a 1000 word supporting paper considering how the advanced practice role might enhance or impact on service delivery in a particular field of practice.
