About this course
Introduction
This work-related degree level course aims to provide a coherent and relevant programme of study that enhances the ability of professionals working with people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in the field of education and/or in the community.
Student's view
Sam works as a Specialist Support Instructor in the College's Integrated and Community Education faculty. "This course allows me to apply the knowledge I am learning in lectures to my everyday job supporting students." Once Sam has completed her degree she hopes to further her career as a Specialist Support Instructor.

Year Two
- Supporting Professional Practice 2
- Inclusion - Meeting the Needs of Children and Young People and Vulnerable Adults
- Understanding Learners with Literacy Difficulties
- Working in Partnership: Parents and Professionals.
Optional modules
- Communication for Learning: Multi-sensory Approaches for Learners with Multi-needs Sensory Impairments
- Independent Study
- Supporting People with Autistic Spectrum Conditions 2
- Transition to Independent Living
- Working with Learners with Behavioural Difficulties.
Teaching and learning
Taught sessions will take the form of formal lectures, group seminars and practical work.
Study time
In addition to the eight hours' study per week, time will be required for study skills and tutorials, and this is arranged to suit participants on an individual basis.
There is also an essential requirement of guided learning time outside the taught hours allocated to the programme. This will be negotiated with course staff.
Assessment
Work is assessed through a variety of methods, including assignments, practical work and presentations.
Careers/further study
Progression from the Foundation degree to the BA(Hons) degree in Education in Professional Practice can take place once the participant has achieved 240 credits (at least 120 of which are at Level 5). A further 120 credits at Level 6 are required to attain the BA(Hons) Education in Professional Practice.

Typical offers
- Tariff points: 80-120 from at least one full A-level or 6-unit award.
- GCSE: Maths and English Language at grade C or above, or Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy required.
- Access: Achievement of the Access to HE Diploma; achievement of level 2 credits in Maths and English Language.
