Introduction
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is equivalent to the 3rd year of a degree (level three) and is available to those working in an educational setting who wish to 'top up' existing level one and two credits, to a full honours degree. Applicants will need to have already completed 240 credits at level one and level two to embark upon this course which comprises 120 credits at level three. When combined this makes 360 credits and leads to an honours degree. The 240 credits need to have been gained through study on education related programmes.
Currently the course has attracted those working as unqualified teachers, learning support assistants and teaching assistants in: early years, primary, secondary, special schools, further education (colleges) and alternative educational provision such as pupil referral units (PRUs) or prison educational settings. Those working in the youth sector have also enrolled on this course and those working with children, young people and families would potentially find this course of interest. It is suitable for education welfare officers, family support workers, mentors and those in educational support management roles wishing to gain a degree. Those working in Further Education (FE) as lecturers or learning supporters who wish to gain a degree and those holding qualifications from overseas may also wish to explore this route to gaining a degree.
If students have relevant qualifications such as the required English, maths and science qualifications and achieve a minimum 2:2 degree this honours degree is a relevant and potential route to primary QTS through a range of postgraduate routes. It may also be a potential route to following Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) through appropriate postgraduate programmes.
