Introduction

Effective use of information is a key part of the decision-makers toolkit.

Do publicity campaigns have any permanent effect?  Is there an underlying trend in sales?  Can we tailor special offers more effectively?  Is there a productivity gain from wage increases?  Are my customers likely to respond positively to an offer of smart meters?

Econometrics the applied use of statistics to address economic questions can help to provide the tools to answer such questions.

What does it cover?

  • Modelling relationships between multiple factors
  • Evaluating the strength of relationships
  • Separating correlation from causation
  • How to read analytical reports
  • Sensitivity analysis
  • Modelling change over time
  • Dealing with yes/no questions

Learning and Teaching

You will be taught how to use a powerful software package, and how to interpret results sensibly in an uncertain world.

This course will be taught intensively over four days by leading academics and consultants from Bristol Economic Analysis.

The course will apply cutting edge thinking to enlighten and resolve decision making in business and policy contexts. 

All experts are proven communicators (verbally and written) to non-academic audiences and all three courses are run at our Frenchay Campus in Bristol.

This introductory course runs over four days. 

Assessment

This course offers you the opportunity to complete UWE's Master's level 15 credit module in Introductory Economics for Decision Makers. To achieve this accreditation you will be required to complete coursework and an exam.
