Introduction to Mindfulness and ACT in Coaching

Over the last few years there has been a surge of interest in utilising and evaluating the effectiveness of mindfulness approaches within every-day and organisational life. Coaching has always drawn on therapeutic models and techniques throughout its development and application. A recent contender is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Training or 'ACT' (Hayes et al, 99) also known as 'the 3rd wave' of evidence-based, cognitive and behavioural therapies.

This exploratory and interactive workshop will:

  • Introduce the mindfulness approach and consider its application within coaching practice.
  • Outline the ACT model and its underpinning principles, represented as the 'Hexaflex'
  • Consider the evidence-base for mindfulness approaches and ACT and discuss their application to coaching.
  • Enable you to experience how some of these principles and approaches may be utilised within a coaching context.

Facilitators: Gina Burns and Sandra Parry

Coaching, Mentoring and Well-being at Work

Organisations are increasingly concerned about the engagement and well-being of their employees and coaching and mentoring are often integral to the strategies developed to address employees well-being in many different contexts. This exploratory and interactive workshop will:

  • Explore how coaching and mentoring are being applied to well-being at work.
  • Identify and discuss best practice and strategies for implementation, based on the academic literature and the experience of the group.
  • Experience some peer coaching, using some of the tools and approaches identified.
