Study day Motivational Interviewing

Content

Motivational interviewing techniques using practical examples will be demonstrated and practised.

Role play will be key to the practice element to illustrate and examine the techniques in action. Prior knowledge and contextual reading will be provided before the workshop commences.

Learning and Teaching

• To be able to identify the key psychosocial impact of long term conditions on the person and their self management skills.
•  To understand the significance of behaviour change in the management of long-term conditions.
•  To understand the key features of models of behaviour change such as the social cognition and stages of change models, in predicting behaviour change.
•  To demonstrate competence in using MI techniques.
•  To appreciate the research evidence related to the effectiveness of such approaches in the management of long-term conditions.
