Introduction
PRINCE2® is a structured approach to project management. It provides a method for managing projects within a clearly defined framework.PRINCE2® is a pre-requisite for over 60 per cent of all Project Management jobs advertised in the UK and over 600,000 people worldwide have taken the PRINCE2® exams. (Source ILX Group August 2009).
The e-learning course is accessed via a portal and allows the required learning, about 25 hours, to be done at a time and pace to suit you. You can test and improve your knowledge using the in-built exam simulator, prior to sitting the multiple choice industry-recognised exams.
Course content
This E-learning course is offered by UWE in collaboration with ILX Group, the UK's largest single provider of PRINCE2® qualifications and fully meets the requirements for the PRINCE2® 2009 Foundation and Practitioner qualifications.
Using voice-over, animation and regular learning-reinforcement techniques, the course delivers the classroom equivalent of a five day workshop, in an easy to use and convenient format. Tutor support is available by contacting experienced tutors on +44 (0)1270 611600 or training@ILXgroup.com.
PRINCE2® describes procedures to co-ordinate people and activities in a project, how to design and supervise the project, and what to do if the project has to be adjusted if it doesn't develop as planned.
In the method, each process is specified with its key inputs and outputs and with specific goals and activities to be carried out, which gives an automatic control of any deviations from the plan.
Divided into manageable stages, the method enables an efficient control of resources. On the basis of close monitoring the project can be carried out in a controlled and organised way. Being a structured method widely recognised and understood, PRINCE2® provides a common language for all participants in the project.
The various management roles and responsibilities involved in a project are fully described and are adaptable to suit the complexity of the project and skills of the organisation.
A MAC or PC with internet connection and sound are required.

Assessment
Assessment is done in two stages, foundation and practitioner. The foundation exam consists of a one hour multiple choice exam and the practitioner exam consists of a two and a half hour multiple choice exam. The pass mark for the foundation exam is 50 per cent and the pass mark for the practitioner exam is 55 per cent.
The e-learning course allows you to attempt simulated foundation and practitioner exams, to gain feedback on areas that need further work. The course also indicates when you are ready for the exam, based on performance in the simulated exam.
Broadly, the foundation exam tests your knowledge of PRINCE2® and the practitioner exam tests your knowledge of how to apply PRINCE2® in a project environment.
