This course is for both registered and non-registered health and social care practitioners. You can tailor the content to the area of practice you're interested in, and study part-time alongside your work.
If you're a practitioner working in health and social care, your diploma level qualifications can only take you so far.
Studying health and social care to degree level allows you to deepen your knowledge of practice and policy, and build valuable confidence, resilience and expertise.
Studying at this level gives you a springboard into more advanced or specialist roles, and greater flexibility to progress and develop in your career.
BSc(Hons) Health and Social Care is for anyone working in the NHS, social care and independent voluntary sector, who wants to top up their qualifications to degree level.
Open to both registered and non-registered health and social care practitioners, it's a flexible interprofessional course that gives you access to the latest thinking in care delivery, and equips you with skills and insights to help you take your career to the next level.
Choose from a huge variety of professional development modules, to tailor what you study towards your specific area of interest whether that's nursing and midwifery, mental health, adult or child nursing, the allied health professions, leadership or research.
Explore, and reflect on, different approaches and perspectives in care delivery. Develop your knowledge of social and health sciences, current policy, and national and international guidelines for practice. Build the professional skills, attitudes and behaviours that are essential for enhancing quality of care.
Study part-time while working, building on your existing practice and feeding what you learn on the course back into your current role.
You'll graduate as a highly resilient, reflective practitioner, able to respond positively to changes in practice, with the leadership skills and confidence to promote service improvements and drive your career forward.
This course allows you to develop and extend your role in the area of health or social care you're working in whether that's nursing, midwifery, the allied health professions or care sector. You might also be working for a charity, in the voluntary sector or in complementary therapies.
You could take your skills and knowledge into other areas of health and social care, or progress into more advanced or specialist roles. You could also progress onto a master's qualification, to specialise further in your chosen area of practice or interest.

You can choose to study individual modules from this course for continuing professional development, or combine modules to top up to a full degree or a master's in advanced practice or professional development.

We use a range of assessments to gauge your understanding and skills, including presentations, practical assessments, written papers and portfolios of evidence.
For most modules, we'll be looking at how well you apply the theory to your area of practice.
UWE Bristol's geographical area for placement provision covers the whole of the South, South West and West of England. Placements across this region help support and provide a wealth of clinical experience across many areas within the NHS healthcare service and the Private Voluntary and Independent sector. These placements are vital to meet the professional regulatory body standards in practice for our affiliated health and social care courses.
To access this variety of opportunities within the health and social care courses, there's an expectation that all students at times will have to travel across large areas. In some cases this can be more than 50 miles away and may be outside of normal working hours due to the nature of shift work on some courses.
When considering your application to these courses, you must ensure you have means to travel to your placement location at unsociable hours, and/or funds available to secure short-term accommodation options to participate in your placement, if required.
You'll be based at our Glenside Campus, with an extensive range of teaching and learning resources available to you, to enhance and support your studies.

Hone and develop your skills in our industry-standard simulation facilities and multimedia laboratories. Search for available literature relating to your topics of interest in our health and social care databases.
You'll also have 24-hour access to computing facilities on our main Frenchay Campus.

To be accepted on this course, you'll need at least 120 credits at Level 1 and 120 credits at Level 2 for example a diploma or equivalent qualification in a Health or Health and Social Care related subject.
