Our cross-disciplinary BSc(Hons) Sport and Exercise Science explores how movement influences health, wellbeing and performance for individuals and society. Through applied learning and theory, you'll build the skills to improve community health and tackle real-world challenges in sport and exercise.

As societies face rising levels of inactivity, chronic illness, ageing populations and widening health inequalities, professionals who understand how movement can improve lives have never been more important.
BSc(Hons) Sport and Exercise Science is designed to respond to workforce demand for graduates with expertise in health and wellbeing across individuals and communities. At the heart of this course is a simple question: how can movement help people live healthier, longer and more fulfilling lives?
From healthy ageing and rehabilitation to community wellbeing and elite athletic performance, you'll explore the science underpinning health and human performance across the lifespan.

As one of the fastest-growing areas of applied science, there's an increasing/critical need for BSc(Hons) Sport and Exercise Science graduates who are equipped to improve lives through movement. Whether supporting elite athletes, helping people live well with long-term conditions, promoting healthier communities or influencing future policy and practice, you'll graduate with the scientific knowledge and practical skills to make a meaningful impact.
You could go on to work in physical activity promotion, community health, wellbeing-focused roles, strength and conditioning, or sport performance. You can also progress to postgraduate study in areas such as sport science, public health and education, including a PGCE.

You will need to meet the following Level 2 requirements:
- GCSE: Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics
In addition to the above Level 2 qualifications, you'll need to achieve the published tariff points from your Level 3 studies prior to entry. Below is an indicative list of the main qualification types. However, we will consider any Level 3 qualifications towards meeting our entry requirements.

- English Language Requirement:
International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*).

- A-level subjects: Grade C in Physical Education, Psychology, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sport, or Sport and Exercise.
- BTEC: You'll need a minimum of five units in Physical Education, Psychology, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Science or Sport or Sport and Exercise. Some examples of BTEC units that meet our Biology/PE requirement includes Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Nutrition, Sports Injuries, Sports and Exercise Massage, Fitness Training and Programming, Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Psychology of Sports Performance and Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology.
Five Level 3 credits at Merit in Physical Education, Psychology, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sport or Sport and Exercise or a related subject.
A minimum Grade 5 in Higher Level Physical Education, Psychology, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sport, or Sport and Exercise. We accept the IB Career-related Programme in conjunction with other Level 3 qualifications.
H3 in Physical Education, Psychology, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sport, Sport and Exercise, or a related subject.

- Welsh Baccalaureate: We accept tariff points achieved from the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales in conjunction with other Level 3 qualifications. This qualification can't be used to satisfy any subject specific entry requirements.
You'll need a minimum of five units in Physical Education, Psychology, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Science, Sport or Sport and Exercise. You may be asked to do more based on the size of your units.

Learning and Teaching
Our teaching combines scientific theory with practical, real-world experience. You'll study alongside students and academics from disciplines that increasingly work together in professional practice - including public health, rehabilitation, nursing and education - giving you a richer understanding of how movement improves lives.
As you progress, you'll explore how sport and exercise can be applied in different settings, from community wellbeing and preventative healthcare to high-performance sport. Learning is informed by current research and delivered through a mix of lectures, seminars, practical sessions and independent study.
In your final year, you'll investigate a real-world challenge alongside researchers, community organisations or healthcare partners.
You can choose to complete this course on a full-time or part-time basis, studying flexibly around your other commitments.

Assessment
Our assessments are designed to help you apply your knowledge in practical and meaningful ways. You'll be assessed through a variety of methods, which may include laboratory reports, presentations, case studies, practical assessments, research projects and written assignments.
Many assessments reflect the challenges you'll encounter in professional settings. You might analyse performance data, design physical activity interventions, evaluate research evidence or develop projects that promote health and wellbeing within communities.
Your final-year research project will give you the opportunity to investigate a topic that interests you, helping you develop valuable analytical, research and problem-solving skills.

Whether working with elite athletes, local communities or healthcare services, graduates will be equipped to use movement as a powerful tool for improving health, wellbeing and quality of life. Rather than treating elite performance and public health as separate fields, you'll explore the connections between them.
The course also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study. Depending on your interests, you could continue your studies in sport and exercise science, public health, education or related disciplines. Students interested in sports education may also choose to progress towards teacher training through PGCE routes.
