Learning and Teaching

The MSc Sustainability and Environmental Management is delivered entirely online with a flexible learning format. There are no timetabled sessions, so you can study at your own pace within each eight-week block.

Each module is built around a structured learning journey, using our five P's approach: Prepare, Practice, Participate, Produce, and Ponder. You'll engage with curated content, real-world case studies and applied assessments that help you connect theory with practice.

Modules are developed and taught by research-active academics working at the forefront of sustainability and environmental management. You'll also benefit from a supportive learning environment with access to academic tutors and student support services throughout your studies.

Study time

You'll study part-time over two years, with a new module starting every eight weeks. Each module combines independent online learning with tasks and activities tailored to your professional context.

Expect to dedicate regular time each week to engage with materials, complete assignments and reflect on your progress, but with the flexibility to schedule study around your other commitments.

Assessment is coursework-based, using formats such as professional reports, narrated presentations and reflective tasks that develop your critical thinking and communication skills. Deadlines are fixed and shared with you at the start of the course, helping you plan ahead and balance your other commitments.

Assessment

All assessments are designed to reflect current professional challenges and develop the competencies valued in sustainability-focused roles.

You'll complete a range of authentic tasks, including:

  • Professional reports and strategic evaluations
  • Case study analyses
  • Narrated presentations and posters
  • Reflective learning journals.

There are no exams or live sessions. Instead, you'll work to structured, manageable deadlines within each module.

Assessments are supported by feedback to help you improve and build confidence. They are inclusive by design, with adaptations available to meet individual needs.

This approach ensures you graduate with practical, transferable skills relevant to today's sustainability and environmental management roles.
