Entry requirements

You'll need an honours degree (minimum 2:2) or equivalent.

If you don't meet the above requirement but have at least 12 months relevant professional experience and/or equivalent qualifications, we recommend that you apply. We'll consider all applications on a 'case-by-case' basis.

English Language Requirement

International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no component below 5.5 (or approved equivalent*).

*The university accepts a large number of UK and International qualifications in place of IELTS. To find details of acceptable tests and the required grades, please visit our English Language requirements pages.

A Proof of English Language Proficiency (POE) exemption may be offered to you, if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Completed at least three years of high school in an English-speaking country.
  • Completed an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in English.
  • Completed an IB diploma in a different language if you obtained a grade of 5 or higher for one of the English courses.
  • Completed a higher educational or professional qualification in English.
  • Working in an English-speaking environment and demonstrably working in English.

How to apply

To make your application, you'll require:

  • A CV/resume or LinkedIn profile (if you don't meet the above academic requirements).
  • Personal identification documents, e.g. passport or other ID.
  • A personal statement (300-500 words) and/or video presentation (4-5 minutes) about why you want to study this course.
  • Proof of English (POE) language proficiency (where applicable).

We can only accept the entry qualification documents in English.

Often, you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this isn't possible, you'll need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

A motivation letter must also be added to your application.

Personal Statement

We want to ensure that the course will suit your needs, so we pay especially close attention to the Personal Statement which forms part of your application to the University. Please take particular care over this statement.

In a 300–500 word statement or 4-5 minute video, you should explain:

  • Why you're interested in a career in artificial intelligence or in specialist IT generally and, if possible, which aspects of artificial intelligence or computing are of particular interest to you.
  • What personal attributes and experience you have which make you suited to a career in artificial intelligence or IT.
  • An overview of your intended career path in artificial intelligence, computing or IT.
  • Wherever possible, your statement should draw on relevant personal experience. When describing the personal attributes and qualities which you believe equip you for a career in computing, IT or artificial intelligence, try to give actual brief examples from your experience where you displayed those attributes and qualities.

Year one

You'll study:

Six of the following compulsory modules. (The order in which you take them will depend upon your intake month):

  • Artificial Neural Network 
  • Foundations of Machine Learning 
  • Business Intelligence and Data Visualisation 
  • AI for Search and Optimisation* 
  • Big Data
  • Machine Learning for Language and Vision.*

*These modules are subject to final UWE Bristol approval in January 2026.

Year two

You'll study: 

The two remaining modules that you haven't taken in year one, plus: 

  • CCT Masters Project.

The University continually enhances our offer by responding to feedback from our students and other stakeholders, ensuring the curriculum is kept up to date and our graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need for the real world. This may result in changes to the course. If changes to your course are approved, we'll inform you.

Learning and Teaching

You'll study in your own time with no timetabled lectures allowing you to balance your personal and professional commitments. 

Content will be delivered through a mixture of online videos, activities and group discussions as well as other collaborative approaches and independent reading. 

You'll have opportunities to collaborate and network with working professionals across the globe alongside a curriculum informed by the latest advancements and best practices in AI.

Study time

Part-time

Our online MSc Artificial Intelligence is designed to be completed over two years part-time. Students will typically spend around 15 hours per week engaging with their studies, which includes attending online sessions, completing assignments, and conducting independent research.

You'll complete the course over two years. This involves self-directed study and participation in online activities (12-18 hours per week) with the support of an online tutor.  

Assessment

We use a range of different forms of assessment throughout the online master's degree in Artificial Intelligence. These include coursework, projects, presentations, case study evaluations, live briefs, and an extended research project. This helps you develop the range of practical industry-ready skills needed in professional and other environments that you can demonstrate at interviews.

Students pay on a modular basis.

Domestic UK students may be eligible for UK postgraduate student loan assistance. Students in receipt of this funding need to remain on track to complete the course within two years otherwise payments will be interrupted or stopped.
