There will always be a market for property, so a role in the development, valuation or management of the built environment entails job security as well as earning potential. Most large organisations today have property management teams, while residential properties have increasingly diverse managerial arrangements.
If the idea of a traditional desk-based job doesn't appeal, a career in real estate could offer you the variety and independence you're looking for.
BSc(Hons) Real Estate is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Learn about buying and selling, valuations, resolving landlord and tenant disputes, negotiating compensation and day-to-day management.
Address sustainability issues and develop a site with students from different degrees in a way that reflects industry.

Our tutors provide a friendly, collaborative environment for learning. They're actively engaged in research or professional practice so you learn directly about the latest academic and business developments.
Learn through a mix of tutor-led and face-to-face classes, student-led and independent study, online study, group projects and by supporting each other's learning.
We encourage you to do formative work to prepare for assessments, eg practice tests. This doesn't count towards your marks but feedback will improve your performance.
We can give you support if you have difficulties with numeracy, IT, literacy or study skills.

In your final year, showcase your work to prospective employers and the public at the annual degree show.

Lectures, workshops, seminars, group project work and tutoring make up 12 hours of contact time each week. We expect you to spend at least another 24 hours studying independently.
You should expect a mix of coursework and seen and unseen exams, which assess what you know and can do and help you develop the confidence and skills that employers value.
Coursework may include essays, reports, portfolios of drawings or sketches, calculations, lab reports, presentations and projects. In your final year you'll complete a dissertation.
While most coursework involves individual submissions, some modules require teamwork.

This course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). When you graduate, you need to spend two years in practice and pass an Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to get full membership. The placement you do as part of this course may qualify as one year of your APC.
As a graduate, you'll also meet the academic requirements for membership of the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation (IRRV) and the European group of Valuers (TEGOVA).
This course is also recognised by the European Council of Real Estate Professions (CEPI).
Students who go on work experience tend to graduate with better degrees. Experience also hones your skills, industry knowledge and professional network, making you a sought after graduate.

Your overall entitlement to funding is based on how long the course is that you're registered on. Standard funding is allocated based on the standard number of years that your course lasts, plus one additional year.
You'll apply for funding each year that you study and Student Finance will take into account how long the course is in each year that you apply. So if you register for the five year course and then transfer to the four year course, the number of years you can apply for funding will change. Student Finance will reassess your funding based on how many years you have been in study, not just those years for which you received student finance.
Always seek advice before taking any action that may have implications for your funding.

If you are an international student your recommended route of study for this degree is through our International College, which upon successful completion to the required level and with good attendance, guarantees entry to year one of the degree.
