Graduates go on to work locally and internationally as project, change, or operations managers in industries such as aviation, transport, technology, finance, banking, and manufacturing. Many also thrive in public sector roles with organisations including local government, defence, SMART Cities, the NHS, educational institutions, and transport authorities.
Entry
Entry requirements
We normally require an honours degree of 2:2 or equivalent.
We can consider applicants who do not meet the normal entry requirements, but who do have relevant professional experience or qualifications. In your application, you should describe in detail your professional experience and qualifications.

You're required to complete a personal statement for this course. Please read the personal statement guidance carefully and make sure that you answer the questions on the postgraduate application form within the personal statement tabs, keeping to the advised word count.
Deferred entry
We're not able to offer deferrals for this course. However, we appreciate there may be extenuating circumstances to consider and therefore we will consider requests on a case by case basis.
English Language Requirement
International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*).

You'll study:
Project Management Principles
In this module, you'll develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles, methodologies and tools that underpin effective project management across a range of professional contexts. You'll explore the full project lifecycle, from initiation and planning through to execution, monitoring and closure, while examining how projects create value for different stakeholders. Topics may include project management methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile and Hybrid approaches, scope definition, scheduling, resource management, risk management, quality assurance, performance monitoring and the use of project management software. You'll also learn how to evaluate project outcomes, manage stakeholder expectations and apply sustainable and professional project management practices.
Leadership, Strategy and Governance in Projects
In this module, you'll explore the strategic role of project management and how effective leadership and governance contribute to successful project delivery. You'll examine how projects align with organisational goals and create value for different stakeholders, while developing your understanding of leadership theories, team development, motivation and conflict resolution. The module may also include stakeholder analysis, communication planning, governance frameworks, change management, sustainability, ethics and global considerations in project leadership. By the end of the module, you'll be able to evaluate strategic project decisions and apply leadership and governance approaches in complex organisational environments.
Professional Practice Catalyst
In this module, you'll bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice, developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for a successful career in project management. You'll engage with real-world project scenarios, industry professionals and reflective learning activities to enhance your professional readiness and career development. Topics may include stakeholder engagement, ethical decision-making, sustainability, professional standards, emerging trends in project management, and the use of tools such as MS Project or Trello. You'll also explore reflective practice, personal development planning and professional competencies, helping you build the confidence to navigate contemporary project environments and support your ongoing professional growth.
Group Project Challenge
In this module, you'll develop the research, critical thinking and collaboration skills needed to investigate contemporary challenges in project management. You'll explore the role of research in professional practice, examining research processes, methodologies, ethics and the use of AI in research. Working collaboratively with others, you'll learn how to identify, evaluate and synthesise academic and professional literature, develop and justify research ideas, and frame project proposals that address real-world issues and opportunities. By the end of the module, you'll be able to communicate complex ideas effectively and apply research-informed approaches to project management practice.
Independent Project Challenge
In this module, you'll undertake a substantial independent research project focused on a specialist area of project management. Building on ideas developed in an earlier group challenge, you'll design and conduct your own investigation, developing advanced research, analytical and critical thinking skills. You'll explore topics such as research design, ethics, literature review, methodology development, data collection and analysis, and the formulation of evidence-based conclusions and recommendations. Through the process of planning, conducting and reflecting on your research, you'll learn how to evaluate complex project management challenges, construct and defend arguments, and communicate findings that have relevance to professional practice.

Learning and Teaching

You'll learn through formal classes, seminars, group work, and independent study, following a Prepare, Participate, Practise model to build and apply your knowledge.
You'll collaborate with a diverse, international cohort, gaining global perspectives while developing problem-solving skills through assignments, case studies, and presentations.

Study time
You'll attend the University for 12 months, with between eight and 12 hours of teaching scheduled a week during both teaching terms and mentored study during the final project term.
Assessment
You'll complete a range of practice-based assessments such as portfolios, case studies, presentations, reports, reflective diaries, essays, and exams. Our assessment methods are designed to help you build practical skills and demonstrate your ability to manage complex projects through real-world application.
Each assessment is carefully designed to reflect what project managers do in the workplace. You'll get feedback and support throughout, so you can grow your confidence and competence as you progress.
