About
This online module, Personal Leadership, is designed to explore and facilitate critical self-knowledge regarding effective leadership of self and others. The complexity of contemporary educational environments places new demands on those working in them and the module will consider how personal characteristics such as values, resilience, courage, personal integrity, consistency, self-awareness and inter-personal communication skills can support the development of self and others in these contexts.
You will gain insight into your own self as a leader. Through this insight, you will be able to demonstrate greater understanding regarding what you bring to situations which require leadership. You will also gain greater awareness of different approaches to self and others.
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- critically evaluate the theory and practice of self-leadership.
- analyse self-leadership in a specific educational and professional context.
- develop a personal leadership plan.
Entry requirements
You must hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent). Applicants without a degree will be required to demonstrate suitability for study at master's level.

Structure
Content
Through the introduction of models of leadership, personal insight and self-awareness, this module is structured around critical self-reflection. The module will also critically evaluate impression management and the impact you may have on others.
Learning and Teaching
This online module offers learners a structured and engaging learning journey, guiding them towards the achievement of specific learning outcomes. The content is thoughtfully curated to facilitate active learning, peer collaboration, and accessibility.
Study time
This module is fully online asynchronous with optional online drop-in sessions.
Assessment
Assessment for this module comprises a portfolio that includes self-assessment measures, peer feedback and a reflective essay, which provides an opportunity to critically reflect on the data and insights provided.
Formative assessment will be carried out throughout the module with regular tasks to assess your grasp of the material covered. Tasks will be reviewed as part of the sessions.
