About
This 20 credit module, Fundamentals of Cancer Care, examines the key aspects of cancer within clinical care and its broader impact on society. You will explore contemporary issues affecting individuals living with and beyond cancer, considering physical, psychological, social, and ethical dimensions.
Drawing on current research and clinical expertise, the module will encourage learners to evaluate evidence-based approaches and apply theoretical knowledge to practice.
This module aims to equip healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of cancer care across clinical and societal contexts. The module encourages critical engagement with contemporary issues and evidence-based practice, fostering a holistic, person-centred approach to oncology.
On successful completion of this level 7 (Masters level) module, you will be able to:
- demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of cancer epidemiology, aetiology, and treatment modalities to inform safe, effective, and person-centred care within complex and evolving healthcare contexts.
- critically evaluate and synthesise evidence-based, personalised care strategies across the cancer continuum.
- critically reflect on your professional role in cancer care, demonstrating ethical reasoning, effective communication, and collaborative practice within multidisciplinary teams.

Assessment
Assessment of this module comprises a conference-style poster and a pre-recorded oral presentation (maximum 10 minutes), followed by a pre-recorded Question and Answer session (maximum 10 minutes). The poster will critically explore an aspect of cancer care relevant to the your clinical practice or learning.
