Introduction

UWE Bristol are offering our alumni a pioneering and exclusive professional development programme, relevant across disciplines, regardless of when you graduated.

Launched in September 2018, our Trailblazer Programme blends face-to-face sessions with online interactive sessions. Participants are motivated to maximise personal impact, boost effectiveness and develop leadership skills.

Facilitated by experienced academics, seasoned practitioners, and inspirational speakers, this programme echoes the mantra of learning by doing which is integral to our Bristol Business School and Bristol Law School.

Who is it for?

Offered exclusively to UWE Bristol alumni on a complimentary basis*, this is a chance to continue the learning that you began when you were a student. The programme enables you to take advantage of your lifelong connection to our expertise and community.

This programme will give you up-to-date relevant skills to use in your professional career. You will also gain access to a growing and vibrant community of Trailblazers with future networking events.

*Please note there is a £30 administrative fee.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this programme, however places are offered exclusively to UWE Bristol alumni from our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Structure

Content

The programme incorporates two face-to-face sessions alongside two online session, and two interactive social events per cohort. We do ask that you make every effort to attend all sessions and hope that these will all be held face-to-face for autumn.

At the end of the programme you will receive a Digital Credential to confirm your completion of the programme. You must attend all sessions to achieve the credential.

Session 1 - Being entrepreneurial in the workplace

Delivered by Lauren Davies and Tom de Pentheny O'Kelly, Team Entrepreneurship coaches
Lauren and Tom are Team Coaches on the pioneering Team Entrepreneurship degree programme at Bristol Business School. During this interactive session they will be exploring entrepreneurial characteristics and how these can be applied to overcome challenges and maximise opportunities in the workplace. The session will give you the opportunity to apply creative skills, reflect on the challenges, achievements and opportunities within your workplace and engage in dialogue with your cohort. You will leave with tangible actions and top tips that you can apply to be more entrepreneurial in your workplace.

Session 2 - Building inclusive leadership skills

Delivered by Dr Vanda Papafilippou, Senior Lecturer in HRM
Understand what we mean by 'Inclusive Leadership' as well as your implicit assumptions and biases and start developing the necessary knowledge, motivation, and skills to identify where to start from in order to become an inclusive leader.

Session 3 - Coaching and Mentoring

Delivered by Dr Arthur Turner, Senior Lecturer, and Dr Karine Mangion, Senior Lecturer in Organisation Studies
Transform your personal management style in this session by developing your coaching and mentoring skills to enhance performance and encourage self-exploration.

Session 4 - Leading others and leading yourself  

Delivered by Dr Charlotte Von Bulow, Senior Lecturer in Leadership

Are you an aspiring leader in search of a next step, or are you already a leadership practitioner keen to widen your skillset? In this session, we will look at leadership practices that can help you prepare for a career in leadership or enhance your existing practice.

Our Continuing Professional Development programmes provide a professional environment for your development needs. Located at Frenchay Campus, with easy access to the M4 and M5 motorways and Bristol Parkway rail station, it has four fully equipped training rooms, a communications and reception area.

To be able to fully participate in our programme, you will need to have access to a computer to participate in online sessions.

Although the programme is complimentary for UWE Bristol alumni, we are asking for a fee of £30 to cover administration costs.
