As a decision-maker in an organisation, you can use financial information to resolve problems and improve performance. This online, self-study course will provide you with the basic skills and understanding of how to interpret and analyse financial data to do this.

This programme is designed for managers who need a basic understanding of the principles of finance to support decision making and business understanding.

This e-learning programme is offered by UWE Bristol in collaboration with ILX Group.

What does it cover?

The programme uses a series of 10 structured modules covering:

  1. Introduction to financial statements
  2. Profit and loss account
  3. Balance sheet
  4. Cash flow
  5. Costing decisions
  6. Introduction to financial analysis
  7. Investment appraisal
  8. Profit margin
  9. Asset turnover
  10. Return on Capital Employed (ROCE)

Each session has checkpoints built within it to allow you to check your understanding as you work through the materials.

Learning and Teaching

How will I learn?

This programme is delivered fully online and so you will require access to a computer with internet access.

Using voice-over, animation and regular learning-reinforcement techniques, the course delivers the classroom equivalent, in an easy to use and convenient format.

You will also require a calculator.

Study time

This programme duration is 20 hours, split into 10 sessions. 

You will have access to the materials for one year to be able to plan your study time.

Participants can sign up to one of our online cohorts. Cohorts will start on the first working day of each month. As part of your course fee you will be given access to the online learning resources for one year from the start date of the cohort.
