Introduction

People often say they have the desire and the ideas for creating their own artists' books but they never have the time or courage or confidence to do anything about it. If this is how you feel, then this course is made for you.

The two-day practical course will give you the time and opportunity to engage with many different creative book-making techniques in order to overcome any creative block.

In the first half of the course, we will make three completely new books using a variety of generative methods and then, in the second half, we will concentrate on making a final personal book project using the participants' ideas and after consultation with the tutor. The emphasis will be on the enjoyment of creative energy, sometimes working in collaboration with the other people on the course.

You will go away with a selection of new books you have created and with the skills and confidence to carry on making in your own time.

Who is it for?

This course is ideally suited to Book Arts practitioners, students, professional artists, amateur artists, and book-makers, seeking to learn completely new skills, or to brush up/develop existing ones and to then proceed to working on their own projects once the course has finished

About the tutor

Jeremy Dixon was born in Essex and now lives in rural South Wales making Artist's Books that combine poetry and photography. Since founding Hazard Press in 2010, he has participated in many book fairs including BABE, Glasgow International Artists Bookfair, Turn the Page in Norwich and the Small Publishers' Fair in London.

Jeremy has had work exhibited both in the UK and abroad in America, Russia and Iceland. Hazard Press books are in many private and public collections including the National Library of Wales, the Tate Gallery, the Saison Poetry Library, the University of Pennsylvania, and Winchester School of Art. His debut poetry collection, In Retail, was published by Arachne Press in 2019. His poems have appeared both online and in print in Roundyhouse Magazine, Riptide Journal, Lighthouse Journal, Durable Goods, and Really System, among others.

Jeremy's poem for The Other Side of Sleep, is published In Retail (2019), the almost verbatim one-sided conversation of a Sales Assistant one busy lunchtime. For Liberty Tales, Jeremy provided three poems, Tabernacle Lane; Flax, San Francisco; and Pearls Over Shanghai in response to the massacre at Pulse, Orlando. Jeremy's poem, Driving to Blackpool to Visit my Sister, was read at Ynys Mon for Solstice Shorts Festival 2017 and is published in Dusk. J.
