Study day/Workshop Screenprinting Beginners Workshop
Delivered by the Centre for Print Research
Page last updated 2 January 2024
Introduction
The Screenprinting Beginners Workshop provides you with the opportunity to learn about the history of screenprinting and various techniques - from artworking to coating your own screen - but, most importantly, to have fun, get inky and engage with the printing process.
You will leave with your own hand printed artwork. You will also have gained a good understanding of the process of screenprinting which would give you the confidence to return for future workshops, or to enter any print room and know what to do.

Who is it for?
The Beginners' workshop is perfect for people who have little or no experience in screenprinting.
Structure
Content
The course will start with an introduction to the history of screenprinting, and its uses over the years. The course tutor will show examples of different methods and techniques within screenprint and talk about artworking, inks and substrates.
Next, you will learn how to prepare a screen, with each person coating their own individual screen. We will talk about artwork, and printing positives digitally to be exposed onto a screen, based on artwork you have bought to the workshop. We will expose the screens and then break for lunch.
After lunch, we will mix inks and talk about different inks we can use for different substrates. You will then begin printing in pairs and tidy and clear up.
