Introduction
This one-day CPD course introduces Health Impact Assessment (HIA) in the context of planning healthy places. It is designed for professionals in local government, health and care systems, and consultancies who are involved in planning, development, and public health.
This course, Health Impact Assessment in Planning Healthy Places, provides a comprehensive overview of HIA, its role in planning, and its application in real-world scenarios.
Participants will explore the history, stages, and benefits of HIA, engage in practical exercises including role plays and case studies, and gain insights into quality assurance processes. The course is led by UWE academics and WHO Collaborating Centre visiting professors, offering a blend of academic and practice-based expertise.

Content
The day comprises of two sessions.
Morning Session:
- Introduction to HIA: history, stages, types, and roles
- Health in all policies (HiAP) and planning for health
- Creating HIA policies and threshold requirements
Afternoon Session:
- Scoping and undertaking HIA: frameworks, health issues, and role play
- Reviewing and quality assuring HIA: QA frameworks and role play
- Reflection and Discussion
