About
Why study this course?
Nursing is a career that's both challenging and deeply rewarding. As a nurse, you'll help improve access to healthcare, wellbeing, social inclusion, and quality of life.
Our practical, career-focused MSci Nursing course prepares you for the growing complexity of healthcare. You'll graduate with dual registration, enabling you to care for diverse patient groups in any two of the four fields of nursing: Adult, Children and Young People, Learning Disabilities, and Mental Health.
If you're a 'home' student, you may be eligible for a £5,000 annual training grant, plus an extra £1,000 if you specialise in Mental Health or Learning Disabilities. Visit the NHS website to learn more.
Why UWE Bristol?
After a shared first year covering the core content, you'll spend Years 2 and 3 specialising in field 1 while still engaging with crossfield perspectives. In Year 4, the emphasis shifts to field 2, while continuing to draw on elements from field 1. You'll have the flexibility to choose the order that suits you and gain an equal grounding in both areas.
You'll be taught by passionate professionals and supported throughout your journey, learning in industry-standard facilities on Glenside Campus. With strong links to local organisations, you'll spend 50% of your time on placements across the region, gaining invaluable hands-on experience.
Where can it take me?
Our MSci Nursing develops you into a confident, competent nurse, sets you apart, and gives you a powerful start to your healthcare career. Being qualified in two fields makes you highly sought-after by the NHS and private, voluntary, or prison service employers, offering you broader employment options. You could work in hospitals, community settings, mental health services, or specialist care.
Dual registration opens a wide range of career opportunities, gives you a competitive edge, and strong prospects for career progression. Many graduates move into advanced practice, leadership roles, or further study.

Placements
UWE Bristol's placement provision covers the South, South West and West of England, offering a wealth of clinical experience across NHS services and the private, voluntary and independent sector. These placements are essential to meet professional regulatory standards for our health and social care courses.
To access this variety, you'll sometimes need to travel long distances, occasionally over 50 miles, and work outside normal hours due to shift patterns. It's important to ensure you can travel at unsociable times or budget for short-term accommodation when required.
With two practice placements each year, you'll spend half the course applying your knowledge and building professional skills with patients, families and healthcare teams in diverse settings. Our strong employer links mean placements are usually split between NHS roles and private or voluntary organisations. You'll gain broad practice experience, preparing you for employment in community or hospital settings. Each placement provides support and guidance from supervisors and assessors.
You'll work across hospital, community and social care environments, and be supervised and assessed throughout to demonstrate the proficiencies needed for dual nursing registration. Alongside this, simulated learning enhances practice, exposes you to hard to reach areas, and develops advanced skills.

Study facilities
Nursing students at UWE Bristol are based at Glenside, our dedicated healthcare campus with beautiful surroundings and industry-standard facilities.
You'll learn in our Skills and Simulation Centre, a replica hospital ward that enables you to develop clinical expertise in a safe practice environment. Here you'll find imitation consultation rooms, adapted living spaces, maternity and children's units, and manikins. All apparatus is genuine NHS equipment, so placements feel familiar from day one.
