Structure

Content

This course makes extensive use of SPSS and familiarity with descriptive statistics is assumed. We would expect attendees to have met statistical ideas at some point in their past and to have ideally completed the course Introduction to SPSS.

This one-day course discusses the underpinning logical arguments for statistical inference and the terminology used. The logic is explained in the context of commonly used tests such as the chi-square test of association, McNemar's test (chi-square for related data), paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test, correlation, the one-way analysis of variance and post hoc tests. The course is (as far as possible) a hands-on course and SPSS is used throughout the day.

This course is designed so that you can learn how to make logical and valid conclusions from your data. The focus is on the practical implementation of statistical techniques using SPSS, with further emphasis placed on incorporating good study design into your planning.

Learning and Teaching

This short course runs on one day, 10:00-16:00.

Assessment

This is a non-credit bearing course and no assessment will be undertaken.

You will receive a Certificate of Attendance on completion of the course.
