Structure

Content

The recession of the early 1990s reinforced the importance of property and facilities management in corporations. As a result practitioners in both commercial and public sectors are sought who have a wider experience of the built environment and business, and opportunities are increasing in this field from financial, investment and occupational sectors.

The aim of this module is to provide an understanding of organisational theory, corporate structures and the application of advanced management techniques (facilities, space planning and resource management).

To accomplish this, the module aims to equip you with an understanding of:

  • the role property plays within the economy, organisations and the wider community,
  • the importance of a strategic approach to the management of property assets,
  • the importance of aligning real estate strategies with business strategies,
  • the value that property and facilities management can add to an organisation in terms of profit/cost, service delivery and corporate image.

Learning and Teaching

With an online course you have the flexibility to fit your studies around personal and professional commitments, with access to our learning resources any time and from anywhere in the world. Studying while you work also provides valuable opportunities to apply what you have learned directly to your role. We use the latest online learning technology to make your distance learning experience as effective and rewarding as our traditionally taught courses.

You'll have access to recorded lectures from leading academics in the real estate management industry.

Alongside these recorded lectures, you'll be able to attend 5 live webinar workshops, every other week, via 'Blackboard Collaborate'. This comprehensive learning platform provides your entire course content, and puts you in contact with your tutor and fellow students.

Assessment

We assess your work through a variety of coursework assignments, including essays, reports, surveys and presentations. We also encourage you to do 'formative work' to prepare for assessment. This does not count towards final marks, but the feedback you receive helps improve your performance.

The assessment is a 15 minute video presentation and an executive summary addressing application of principles and methods for estate strategic management.
